Six BSF staff members test positive for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, force count now at 282

A total of six Border Security Force (BSF) staff members have tested positive for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, a BSF statement said Monday. Among the soldiers who tested positive for coronavirus disease, four are from Kolkata and one from Tripura and Delhi.

All infected BSF staff are receiving treatment at designated Covid Health Care hospitals. A member of Delhi’s Covid-19 positive BSF, a soldier with the 126th BSF Battalion is admitted to AIIMS Jhajjar and has almost recovered, the BSF statement said.

With the six recent Covid-19 cases reported Monday, the total count of BSF staff who tested positive for the contagious Covid-19 infection has now increased to 282.

On Sunday, the Border Security Force had reported 18 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the total number of coronavirus cases in the force to 276.

According to BSF, of the new cases, 16 were found in Tripura and two cases were reported from the national capital of Delhi.

“On Sunday the 16th, 18 new cases of Covid-19 have been reported in the Border Security Force (BSF) from Tripura and 2 are from Delhi. The total number of active Covid-19 cases in the force is now 276, ”a BSF official had said.

The 16 new cases of Covid-19 in Tripura were detected in the 86th BSF Battalion. Among those who tested positive for the infection, one person was a BSF official; six were women and there were nine children.

Tripura Prime Minister Biplab Kumar Deb visited Twitter to announce the latest cases. He also announced that 75 samples from the 3rd BSF Battalion were analyzed, but all reports came back negative.

Earlier on May 8, 30 BSF staff members had tested positive for coronavirus disease, including six from Delhi and 24 soldiers from Tripura.
