BENGALURU: Like Air India flight from London, under the Vande Bharat’s Missionlanded on Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru around 4:47 a.m. on Monday, 323 Indian passengers on board heaved a sigh of relief, hoping that the worst was over after being stranded in foreign lands devastated by Covid-19.
Passengers had to wait on the plane for almost an hour before they were allowed to get off. Only two rows of passengers were allowed to leave at once, to maintain social distance.
After the flight landed (AI 1803), all passengers had to first complete a self-declaration form detailing their health conditions, after which they had to undergo a mandatory thermal exam and pulse oximeter reading, in lots of 20 to avoid overcrowding.
The passengers were then stamped on the back of their palm with indelible ink showing the number of days they will have to remain in quarantine. Only after this did the passengers proceed to immigration dispatch, security check and baggage claim. A sim card counter was also established after the baggage claim area for passengers. After this, they were given the option to choose the facility in which they wanted to be quarantined; this also included five-star hotels and resorts.
Amid stringent security, tight barricades, and frequent disinfection, passengers were escorted to the BMTC (Bengaluru Metropolitan Transportation Corporation) buses in batches of 20 along with their luggage, from arrival gates to be quarantined at chosen facilities. All asymptomatic passengers will now be quarantined for the next 14 days. Families of arriving passengers were advised not to come to the airport on Monday morning.
The flight left Heathrow after 4pm on Sunday and landed in Delhi around 1.30am. During the stop in Delhi, the crew of the airline handling the plane changed, the passengers said.
