Dr. Pradip Awate, Maharashtra Disease Surveillance Officer, said there is evidence of community transmission of Covid-19 in parts of Mumbai and Maharashtra. However, the overall picture in the state is that of cluster cases, the official said.

“We are obtaining clusters of coronavirus cases in Mumbai and throughout the state of Maharashtra. There is some evidence of community spread not only in Mumbai but in other parts of the state, but the overall picture is that we are getting clusters of cases, ”said Awate.

On the increasing number of Covid-19 cases in the country’s financial capital, Awate said the Mumbai case is very different compared to other regions of the country. It is densely populated and has a different socio-economic meaning.

“Not only is it the capital of Maharashtra, but its socio-economic location is also very different from that of many other subways in India. It has a higher population density. 20,000 people live here per square kilometer, so that’s one of the reasons why Mumbai is launching so many Covid-19 cases, ”he said.

Regarding community transmission cases, Dr. Awate requested an in-depth analysis of each and every case.

“We need to find the link for each case, it’s the travel history, the probable exposure and all of those things,” he said.

Maharashtra continues to lead the national Covid-19 count with more than 22,000 coronavirus cases. The state has recorded 832 deaths so far, while 4,199 patients have recovered from the disease.
