New Delhi, May 10
The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has developed an automated, contactless ultraviolet disinfection cabinet to disinfect electronic devices, bills and papers, the Defense Ministry said Sunday as the country fights the COVID-19 outbreak.
The system, Defense Research Ultraviolet Sanitiser (DRUVS), provides a 360 degree exposure of ultraviolet rays to objects placed inside the cabinet. Once the disinfection is done, the system enters sleep mode, therefore, the operator does not need to wait or stop near the device.
“It was developed by the Imarat laboratory (RCI) of the DRDO Research Center and works in non-contact operation, which is very important in containing the spread of the virus,” the ministry said.
The Ministry noted that the DRUVS had been designed to disinfect mobile phones, iPads, laptops, bills, checks, challans, notebooks, paper, envelopes, etc.
India has been under closure since March 25 to curb the spread of COVID-19, which has infected more than 62,900 people and has killed some 2,100 in the country to date. PTI
