Chennai Adds 279 to 526 New Tamil Nadu COVID-19 Cases – The New Indian Express

CHENNAI: A total of 526 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in the State on Saturday, bringing the count to 6,535. Of these, 279 were in Chennai, bringing the city’s total to 3,330 cases. To combat the continued increase, the state government has decided to order an additional 10 lakh RT-PCR kit from South Korea.

“We now have 1.2 lakh kits with us and receive an additional 1 lakh on Saturday. We plan to order an additional 10 lakh of kits, ”said P Umanath, managing director of TN Medical Services Corporation. The state has been aggressively increasing testing, with 13,254 samples analyzed on Saturday alone. So far, about 2.3 lakh samples have been tested.

Meanwhile, four other people died from the virus, and the death toll was 44. Three of the deceased were from Chennai, while one, from Ramanathapuram, died at the Sivaganga Medical College. Among the deceased was a 67-year-old bedridden patient who had Parkinson’s disease. On Saturday, 219 people were discharged, bringing the total number of discharged persons to 1,824, while active cases were 4,664.

Up to 796 people were transferred to the COVID-19 care centers of the Chennai Corporation. Of the 358 returnees who arrived in Chennai from Dubai on Saturday, 82 are under observation by the Corporation at the Royal Regency Hotel and 24 are at the Hilton Hotel. The rest of them are being monitored by the Chengalpattu district administration at VIT College.

Private offices in Chennai can operate with 33% of employees from 10.30 a.m. at 7 p.m.
Gasoline bunks in Chennai can operate from
6 am to 6 pm; and from 6 am to 8 pm in the rest of the state

Barbershops, spas, shopping complexes should not be opened.
