One day after The Tamil Nadu government moved the Supreme Court Defying the High Court order ordering the closure of TASMAC liquor stores, actor Rajinikanth said Sunday that the ruling AIADMK should forget to return to power if it reopened the liquor stores.

In a tweet, Rajinikanth also asked the government to work out alternative ways of generating income. “If the state reopens the TASMAC at this time, it must forget the dream of returning to power again. Please find better ways to fill the chests, ”the actor tweeted.

Rajinikath joins Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) chief Kamal Haasan and DMK President MK Stalin in criticizing the government’s decision to reopen liquor stores.

On Saturday, the Tamil Nadu government moved the Supreme Court against an order approved by the Madras High Court ordering the closure of all government-run retail liquor outlets in the state until the closure was lifted.

A special bank from the Vineet Kothari Justice and Pushpa Sathyanarayana Justice division had passed a provisional order on Friday after listen to a batch of requests seeking the closure of liquor stores as they were violating established guidelines to contain the spread of Covid-19. The HC pointed out that there were large crowds and that people did not maintain any social distance.

However, it allowed home delivery of liquor via online mode. The Tamil Nadu government, in its appeal on Saturday, called the HC order a case of “judicial overreach” and said that the online sale and delivery of alcohol was not possible statewide.

The AIADMK-led government reopened liquor stores across the state, except Chennai and containment areas, on May 7 after a 43-day period. He sold around 20 lakh liters of liquor worth Rs 170 crore that day.

On May 4, when the government announced the reopening of the liquor stores, it had ordered stores to implement strict social distancing rules and set a 10 a.m. at 5 p.m. He had also promised to deploy additional personnel to manage the crowd.

The HC, a day before the reopening of the stores, refused to suspend the government’s decision. He ordered that each person be allowed to buy only one bottle of liquor (750 ml) per day if the payment was made in cash.
