NEW DELHI: The ministry of health has decided to deploy core teams in 10 states that have witnessed or are witnessing high cases of Covid-19 to help their health departments facilitate management of the outbreak.
These are in addition to the 20 core teams of public health experts previously dispatched to 20 high-case-load districts on May 3, the health ministry said in a statement Saturday, adding that a high-level team was recently appointed in Mumbai to support Maharashtra’s efforts at Covid -19 response and management.
The statement was issued in the context of AIIMS medical experts – Director Dr. Randeep Guleria and Dr. Manish Soneja – of the medical department who visited the civil hospital in Ahmedabad to provide expert guidance to doctors there on the management of Covid-19 following the instructions of the center.
They interacted with front-line staff amid concerns about the increase in Covid-19 deaths in the state. According to official sources, the medical team flew to Ahmedabad on a special flight by the Indian Air Force on Friday night.
According to the health ministry statement, core teams comprise a high-ranking health ministry official, a joint secretary-level nodal official, and a public health expert.
“The team will support the state health department in implementing containment measures in the affected areas within the districts and cities of the respective states,” the statement said.
The teams are being sent to Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, west of bengalAndhra Pradesh and Telangana said.
According to the Ministry of Health, the number of deaths from Covid-19 increased to 1,981 and the number of cases increased to 59,662 on Saturday, registering an increase of 95 deaths and 3,320 cases in the last 24 hours since Friday morning.
The 1,981 deaths include 449 in Gujarat, 200 in Madhya Pradesh, 160 in West Bengal, 101 in Rajasthan, 68 in Delhi, 66 in Uttar Pradesh, 14 in Andhra Pradesh, 40 in Tamil Nadu, 30 in Karnataka, while Telangana and Punjab. They have reported 29 deaths each due to respiratory disease.
According to data from the Ministry of Health updated in the morning, Gujarat has reported 7,402 cases, Delhi 6,318, Tamil Nadu 6,009, Rajasthan 3,579, Madhya Pradesh 3,341 and Uttar Pradesh 3,214.
The number of Covid-19 cases has increased to 1,887 in Andhra Pradesh and 1,731 in Punjab.
It has increased to 1,678 in West Bengal and 1,133 in Telangana.
