New Delhi: In a fight over the transport of stranded migrants to West Bengal, railway officials said Saturday that there has so far been no recorded proposal with the national carrier to operate more ‘Shramik Special’ trains to the state.
The Indian Railways reaction came minutes after the TMC said they had already planned to operate eight trains to transport migrants from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Punjab and Telangana.
The railroad said they did not yet have the proposal for the train, which according to the TMC was scheduled from Hyderabad to Malda on Saturday at 3pm.
Indian railways so far have only traveled two trains to West Bengal, one from Rajasthan and the other from Kerala.
In accordance with the guidelines issued by the railroads for these trains, the proposal must be received from both states along with the number of passengers for these trains to run.
Officials said the railways have planned 47 for Saturday so far, none of them destined for West Bengal.
The TMC accused Union Interior Minister Amit Shah on Saturday of “lying” that the West Bengal government does not allow trains to arrive in the state, and said they have already planned eight trains to transport migrants from Karnataka , Tamil Nadu, Punjab and Telangana.
Shah wrote to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday, saying that while the Center has facilitated more than two lakh migrants to return home, it is not receiving the expected support from the state.
