HYDERABAD: Even while the Bihar government is working to recover migrant workers Stranded across the country due to the prolonged blockade, a group of 225 workers from that state landed in Telangana on Friday. Workers took the train that reached Patna from Telangana on Thursday. They will work at various rice mills in the state where the rice harvest is in full swing now.

Workers will be dispatched to Nalgonda, Miryalaguda, Karimnagar, Kamareddy, Jagtial, Peddapalli, Sultanabad, Mancherial and Siddipet. The workers had arrived in a special Shramik Express with the state government bearing their travel expenses, Rajeshwar said. Upon arrival, they were greeted with a pink flower each by the Minister of Civil Supplies, Gangula Kamalakar.
Sources said Khagaria workers were willing to return as they were paid 1,200 rupees a day in Telangana, which is much higher than what a worker earns (around 300 rupees a day) in Bihar.
Deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi from Bihar had said that these workers had come during Holi and that they could not return due to the escalation in the Covid-19 cases. Meanwhile, the Telangana government has contacted Bihar authorities to facilitate the return of the workers, the sources said.
The idea of ​​bringing Bihar workers back came from the rice millers, the sources said. Due to the excellent harvest, rice millers rely heavily on them for the harvest. The millers had even said that if the government allowed they would organize buses to bring them back from Bihar.
“The workers who arrived on Friday had already worked in rice mills. They have the ability to pack, load and unload bags of rice in trucks and other vehicles, ”said a rice miller.
The rice mill owners said they would take care of the migrant workers. In addition to providing a dry ration, the government gave Rs 500 to each worker during the closing period.
However, the state government said it would continue to operate special trains to transport migrant workers who wish to go to their native states.
