As coronavirus cases in India continued to rise, the health ministry said today that citizens have to learn to live with coronavirus. “Preventive guidelines against the virus must be implemented as behavioral changes,” said Lav Agarwal, deputy secretary of the Union Ministry of Health and Welfare at the daily press conference.
States added more than 3,000 coronavirus cases for the second consecutive day on Thursday, bringing India’s COVID-19 count to more than 55,000. Up to 3,390 people tested positive for the new coronavirus in the past 24 hours. The total number of coronavirus patients in the country increased to 56,342. The number of deaths from COVID-19 infection increased to 1,886.
There were 37,916 active coronavirus patients in India, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The doubling rate worsened as India witnessed an explosion of new cases of COVID-19 this week. However, at the brightest spot, the recovery rate improved to 29.26%. More than 16,000 people were cured of the disease.
“If we follow what should and should not be done, we may not peak in the number of COVID-19 cases and our curve may remain flat,” said Agarwal.
No cases of coronavirus were detected in the 216 districts of India, Agarwal added. In 42 districts, no new cases were detected in the last 28 days. No new cases were confirmed in 29 districts in the last 21 days. In 36 districts no new cases were found in the last 14 days and in 46 districts no new cases were registered in the last 7 days, according to data from the Ministry of Health.
Amid the growing number of COVID-19 cases, the core team visited Mumbai to assess the situation. The Center advised the Maharashtra government to increase surveillance in congested areas to stop the spread of the virus.
Containment areas should be adequately delimited and contact tracing, testing, and treatment of positive patients should be done in these areas, Agarwal suggested.
A revised list of red, orange and green zones will be distributed to states soon, the health ministry added.
More than 2.5 lakh passengers traveled on 222 special trains for migrant workers amid the coronavirus blockade, the ministry of internal affairs said today.
