Raipur: Even when 11 people were killed in Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh on Thursday due to a gas leak from a chemical plant, Chhattisgarh also reported a similar incident. Reports say seven workers were injured after being exposed to a gas leak at a paper factory in Raigarh district.
“Seven workers at a paper mill have been hospitalized after being exposed to a gas leak, reportedly cleaning a tank at the mill. Three of them are in critical condition, ”said Police Superintendent Raigarh Santosh Singh.
The three critical people were reportedly being transferred to the capital Raipur for treatment.
Raigarh SP Singh said the owner of the paper mill did not inform police, who learned of the incident from the hospital where those exposed to the gas leak entered.
“The factory owner tried to hide the incident from us and did not report it to the police. A case will be recorded,” SP said.
Meanwhile, SP Singh and collector Yashwant Kumar encountered those affected by the gas leak at the hospital.
The leak reportedly started last night when workers were undergoing a clean-up process. The mill was closed for the past few weeks due to the closure and was expected to resume operations soon.
