At least seven workers at a paper mill in the Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh became ill after inhaling poisonous gas, police said Thursday.
Police Superintendent Raigrah Santosh Kumar Singh, speaking to the Hindustan Times, said three of them are referred to the Raipur Government Hospital and one is said to be serious.
“The incident took place at Shakti Paper Mill in the village of Tetla on Wednesday night, where the victims were cleaning an open tank filled with paper debris,” said SP.
“On Wednesday, we received information about the incident and then hospital personnel were alerted. We have sent three of them to Raipur, “said the SP.
Police said the mill had been closed since the Covid-19 blockade was imposed and cleanup work was underway to resume operations.
“One of the workers is serious,” added the SP.
A team of forensic experts was dispatched to the scene to investigate the exact cause of the incident, Singh said, adding that a case will soon be recorded.
