At least 4,500 new cases have been detected across the country between Wednesday and Thursday, according to figures announced by different states and territories of the Union.

A 55-year-old CISF agent posted at the Mumbai international airport succumbed to Covid-19, while two members of the Border Security Force (BSF) staff also died, authorities said. The BSF also reported 41 new cases of infection, bringing its count of confirmed cases to 193.

While Maharashtra and Gujarat continue to lead the national count, Tamil Nadu is not making slow progress towards 5,500. Five hundred and eighty new cases were reported there on Thursday. The death toll in the southern state reached 37, and two more women succumbed to Covid-19 yesterday.

On Thursday morning, the health ministry had said that the number of Covid-19 deaths in the country increased to 1,783, while the number of cases increased to 52,952, registering an increase of 89 deaths and 3,561 cases since Wednesday. .

Speaking at a global virtual event for Buddha Purnima, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India is doing everything possible to save the lives of all citizens from the coronavirus, but is also taking its global obligations very seriously during the pandemic.

He also said that India’s growth will always help global growth.

A national blockade has been implemented since March 25, which was first imposed for 21 days, but was extended first for another 14 days until May 3 and then for another 14 days in the third phase, with considerable relaxation, until May 17.
