A video has emerged that allegedly shows the bodies of Covid-19 victims lying unattended near coronavirus patients at a civilian management hospital, after which a BJP MLA attacked the Brihanmummbai Municipal Corporation ruled by Shiv Sena.

Looking at the video, BJP lawmaker Nitesh Rane said this shows that BMC does not pay attention to patient safety.

The video allegedly showed some bodies near Covid-19 patients undergoing treatment at the Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital in the Sion area of Mumbai.

Rane tagged the video in a tweet on the microblogging site Wednesday night. “The Sion hospital has shown great negligence in allowing Covid-19 patients to sleep among the bodies of those who died of the same disease. The BMC boasts of being the richest civic body but pays no attention to safety of patients, “said the BJP leader. he said Thursday.

He noted that the hospital in Sion mainly receives patients from Dharavi, the largest slum area in the country. “Is this how we treat our working class? Such oversight of medical personnel and the Sion hospital could lead to further spread of coronavirus infection,” he said.

While the video sparked controversy, the hospital’s dean, Dr. Pramod Ingale, said family members of those killed by Covid-19 are reluctant to take the bodies. “That is the reason why the bodies were kept there unattended. We have now removed the bodies and are investigating the matter,” he said.

Asked why the bodies were not transferred to a morgue, Ingale said: “There are 15 slots in the hospital morgue of which 11 are already full. If we change all the bodies to the morgue, it will be a problem for the bodies of those died of causes other than Covid-19. ”

As of Wednesday, Mumbai reported 10,527 Covid-19 cases and 412 deaths.
