Congresswoman Sonia Gandhi questioned Wednesday the criteria the government is applying to extend the blockade to curb COVID-19 and asked what the plan is after May 17, when the blockade ends.
The ruling BJP responded, saying that the war on the pandemic is being weakened by the way Sonia and congressional leader Rahul Gandhi pose questions every day.
Sonia held a video conference on Wednesday with four major states governed by congressional ministers, who told her that states should be free to decide on the classification of zones in red, orange and green.
During the meeting, which was also attended by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and P. Chidambaram, the chief ministers reiterated the financial stress faced by the states and the need for the Center to announce an economic package. Both Sonia and Singh felt it was time for the government to explain their post-May 17 action plan.
“After May 17 what and after May 17 … how? What criteria is the Indian government using to judge how long the blockade will last? “Sonia said, quoted by the head of the congressional communication department Randeep Surjewala. Singh agreed and said:” We need to know … what will happen after the 3.0 crash? “
Chidambaram said states are bleeding in financial terms, but that the central government is not allocating money.
In response to Congress questioning the government’s blockade exit strategy, BJP spokesman Shahnawaz Hussain said: “At a time when everyone should join forces, questions are raised about when the blockade will be relaxed. If Congress cannot cooperate with the government, it must make no effort to create divisions. The way that Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are asking questions every day, is weakening the war against Corona, “he added.
