Grieved that the West Bengal government has failed to arrange to take them back to their places of origin in Bengal, hundreds of stranded Bengalis resorted to a protest to express their resentment in Haridwar.
In Harishwar’s Vishnu Ghat, around 450 Bengali pilgrims and workers have been waving and chanting for the past few days beating Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for not taking them back to the state.
With the help of the city magistrate’s office, these stranded Bengali pilgrims and workers have also transmitted information to the West Bengal government and tourism department about their situation, as they have been stranded in Haridwar for the past forty days.
These stranded Bengal residents also sent a memorandum through the Seema Nautiyal district tourism officer to the West Bengal government requesting permission to return on a priority basis.
“We have become refugees in a sense since our state government is denying permission to return to our homes. Forget about bearing the costs that we will pay on our own, CM Mamata Banerjee has not even expressed any concerns regarding our plight, ”said Mitthu Mukherjee, a resident of Bengal.
Local tehsildar Ashish Ghildiyal said that because the West Bengal government had not given permission to stranded residents, these people are not allowed to move any further.
Chandrima Chakravarti, another stranded pilgrim said that she had arrived in Haridwar in March for a pilgrimage. “But due to the blockade, I was stranded with my family members and it is quite disheartening that our own state government does not grant us permission or take action to bring us back as Uttarakhand or even the Uttar Pradesh government is doing,” he said. . .
Radhe Krishan ashram spiritual guru Satpal Brahmachari said that until the closure sanctions are completely suspended and pilgrims are unable to go to their homes by workers from other states, their ashram will distribute free food to all those people.
