New Delhi: A video showing the bodies of COVID-19 victims lying unattended near patients receiving treatment for the virus infection at Mumbai Sion Hospital went viral on social media on Thursday (May 7). The BJP opposition criticized Shiv Sena for the video, as the hospital is run by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
Expressing concern over the state of affairs at Sion Hospital, former Maharashtra Prime Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the increasing number of coronavirus cases in the state is a very serious matter. He added that there is a lack of coordination between the interested agencies.

Congressional leader Milind Deora also expressed shock at the video and tweeted: “Outraged to see the bodies next to the sick at Sion Hospital. In the viral video, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope said there should be no policy on this issue. “According to the protocol, if a patient dies, the body is kept in a black sheet to prevent infection. Meanwhile, the BMC has formed a committee to investigate the matter and asked the panel to submit its report within 24 hours, adding that actions will be initiated against the culprits. The BMC also released a statement saying an investigation into the authenticity of the video will be conducted.
