In addition, 207 districts, where the duplication rate is currently low but which may be potential critical points, have been classified as “non-critical points” or “white zones”. Apart from this, there are ‘green zone’ districts without any new confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the last 28 days.
These figures released by the health ministry total 377 districts, where the disease has been reported, out of a total of 732 in India. Districts with hotspots have several areas that the ministry says are “broadcasts” of local broadcasting, but have not added to community broadcasting so far.
Lav Agarwal, joint secretary of the health ministry, said India’s containment efforts are showing results and noted that 11.4% of positive cases reported so far have also been recovered. The total number of Covid-19 cases in India has increased to 11,439 with 1,076 new cases reported in the past 24 hours, while the death toll is 377, the ministry official said.

The growth rate-based classification of Covid-19 positive cases is aimed at the strict implementation of containment measures and active surveillance to break the chain of transmission during the prolonged shutdown period, authorities said. Districts with a doubling rate of less than four days (calculated every Monday for the past seven days) or with a high number of cases contributing to more than 80% of cases in India, as well as in several states, they are defined as ‘red zones’ or critical points.
Critical points have also been categorized as “groups” with fewer than 15 cases or “large outbreaks”. Large outbreaks are districts with more than 15 cases or where there are multiple groups. Health officials have said that the presence of multiple groups in an area or city with rapidly multiplying cases and transmission between groups would also constitute a community transmission.

At a high-level review meeting on Wednesday, Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba asked all secretaries of state, health secretaries, DGP, district collectors, city commissioners, SP, CMO, and other state and UT officials that implement containment strategies according to the classification. The Ministry of Health has already issued strategies and guidelines accordingly.
These containment strategies describe how to delineate that zone and a buffer zone. In these containment areas, except for essential services, other movements and activities will be restricted. The cases will be actively monitored and surveyed by special teams in the containment area according to the sampling criteria.
In these areas, samples will be collected and analyzed and, in addition, tests will be carried out to detect influenza-like illnesses and severe acute respiratory diseases.
