Former Indian cricketer and full-time expert Aakash Chopra turned down players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Mohammad Shami while choosing his all-time T20I World XI on Friday. Chopra, who briefly represented the Indian national team in the 2004 season, shared a video where he brought together the greatest of today’s shortest form into a star-studded eleven. Accepting the challenge first launched by the International Cricket Council (ICC) social media accounts, the former Team India starter presented his fantasy eleven with a twist.
Depending on the challenge, for each country, only one player can be added to the fantasy world XI. Therefore, Chopra was forced to choose only one star from Team India in his World T20I eleven. While many would choose the Kohli or Hitman Rohit treadmill in their respective T20I eleven, Chopra made an interesting call by dropping the top two hitters and choosing Jasprit Bumrah while naming his Word T20I XI.
“I recently saw something interesting that the ICC did. They asked fans to pick the best T20I XI in the world – on one condition, of course! You can choose ONLY 1 PLAYER from each country. Really challenging exercise actually. So I thought about sharing my team with all of you. Also try and share your team in the comments below. Remember the CONDITION very carefully, boys! the famous commentator wrote on Facebook.
I can’t find a place for them: Chopra in snubbing Kohli and Rohit
Explaining the conditions of the challenge, Chopra started by choosing Australian starter David Warr and England fighter and hitter Jos Buttler as his first batting pair. Surprisingly, Chopra gave third place to New Zealand hitter Colin Munro and Pakistan’s star hitter Babar Azam was given fourth place. “People must be thinking if I have not chosen Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma among the top four, then where will I place them, unfortunately I cannot find a place for them as I have to choose only one Indian,” said Aakash.
The former Indian starter handed AB de Villiers fifth and Shakib Al Hasan followed the Proteas next, as the Bangladesh ATV ranked sixth in the Chopra World T20I playing XI. Chopra completed his World XI in the shortest format by including Andre Russell, Sandeep Lamichhane, Rashid Khan, Bumrah and Lasith Malinga.
