The slump in sales that gripped the market in 2019 has affected all segments, from the most affordable to the high-end that comprises models from various luxury car brands.
As we have repeated many times in the past few months, the last calendar year turned out to be a bad one for almost the entire auto industry in the country, with almost all automakers and bikes reporting annual losses. Those that recorded a decline in the sales lists include some long-established manufacturers who have led the sales lists for many years.
What is also quite interesting is that the trend of falling sales has been seen in all segments, with models in both affordable and high-end prices suffering a sharp drop in demand. Therefore, even in the luxury car market, all manufacturers, with the exception of Jaguar Land Rover, witnessed a drop in sales growth.
Mercedes Benz, the established leader in the luxury car market, experienced an 11% drop in sales from 15,538 units in 2018 to 13,786 units in 2019. However, despite this, the automaker continued to enjoy its number one status in the sales charts.
Then we have BMW, which is in second place with a total sale of 9,641 units. BMW has seen a 13% drop in sales, and the numbers fell from 11,105 units in 2018 to 9,641 units in 2019.

Third, we have Jaguar Land Rover, which has become the only luxury automaker to have seen positive sales growth. The automaker has sold 5,000 vehicles in 2019, posting 9 percent sales growth compared to 4,596 units sold in 2018.
Fourth place goes to Audi, which has seen a second consecutive year of decline in sales charts. The automaker sold 4,594 units in 2019, leading to a 29% drop from 6,463 units sold in 2018. Fifth is occupied by Volvo, which suffered a 15% decrease and its sales fell from 2,638 units in 2018 to 2,253 units in 2019.
