Google Pixel Buds finally available

Google first announced the second-generation Pixel Buds at the #MadeByGoogle event on October 15 of last year alongside Google Pixel 4. Just over six months later, the new Google Pixel Buds are finally available for sale. The initial wave of criticism was also released today with a mostly positive review of Google’s first TWS (True Wireless Stereo) headphones.

First-generation Pixel Buds weren’t fan favorites. The two buds were tied by a cable that also connected the right earphone with the left; cutting them could ruin this connection. With the new Pixel Buds, you can use either Bud independently of the other.

The new Buds come in an egg-shaped case that unfolds much like other TWS headphones. You can also quickly connect to Android devices with “Quick Pair” when you open them near a device. Google promises clear phone calls in windy or noisy environments. Plus, Adaptive Sound can continuously adjust the volume based on your environment.

Like its predecessor, the new Pixel Buds let you talk to the Google Assistant hands-free. Google claims that you can do Pixel Buds in real time to translate conversations. This was a feature when the original Pixel Buds appeared, but it was awkward at the time; we wonder how much this has improved since then.

The new Pixel Buds will “be updated over time with new features, including a Find My Device update that will show the last known location of your headphones.”

Google’s new Pixel Buds retails for $ 179 through Google Store, Best Buy, Target (in May), Walmart, and at U.S. carriers: AT&T, U.S. Cellular, T-Mobile, and Verizon. They are currently only available in Clearly White, but in three additional colors: Oh So Orange, Quite Mint and Almost Black will be available “in the coming months.” It’s worth noting that all color models are shown to come with a white charging case.
