The Project Oris concept places a projector lens inside an Xbox console

Why build a console when you could build so much more?

Meet the Oris Project. He doesn’t just play games. It does everything else too. The Oris Project is a charming mix of features and services that honestly seems like a crazed concept at first glance, but it makes perfect sense when you look at it in the grand scheme of things. The Oris Project is a game console, a hi-fi speaker, a projector, and even a voice AI, all wrapped up in a literal technology black box.

Designed to be at the center of your life at home, the Oris Project allows you to play, listen to music, and even watch media. You can connect it to a screen, or just point it to a blank wall and let your built-in projector transmit an 8K HDR screen. For music and games, the display is complemented by 5 built-in audio drivers in the console that deliver rich bass and crisp highs in all directions. The speakers even come with 4 omni-directional microphones that pick up voice commands, because the console has a built-in voice assistant. Probably tied to Microsoft services, the Oris Project runs Cortana, allowing you to set up game reminders, as well as other features, such as dimming the lights or playing your favorite tracks.

The Oris Project is, however, more than a simple console with many functions. It comes with its own controller which A. features a touchscreen surface on top, similar to PlayStation DualShock 4 controllers, but with a built-in display. The controller also includes a fingerprint reader, which allows you to access multiple user profiles with a simple touch, and wireless OTA charging that allows you to take advantage of the controller without plugging it in. Quite ingenious, isn’t it?

Would Microsoft do this? I doubt it. Should they? I can think of a lot of reasons. A. It would give Xbox an incredible competitive advantage over the PS, B. It would mean not having to buy an 8K TV, a pair of speakers, or even a smart hub, and C. It would really make people use Cortana, which honestly Microsoft I could really use, am I right?
