The Delhi High Court on Monday requested Netflix’s response in a statement seeking to stop airing the Hasmukh series, especially episode four, for allegedly damaging the lawyers’ reputation.
Judge Sanjeev Sachdeva also issued a notice to the show’s producers after the statement submitted by attorney Ashutosh Dubey, a Supreme Court attorney, claimed that the series alleges that the attorneys are thieves, scoundrels, thugs and “rapists.”
The petition said that the creators had degraded not only the defenders, but also the police and politicians. He said the statements made against the community are highly derogatory, defamatory and discrediting the legal profession, lawyers and advocates in the eyes of the general public.

On Monday, attorney Dubey pushed for provisional relief and said the online platform should stop broadcasting the series until the matter is decided. They also sought that at least the alleged defamatory part be removed.
He said that the main defenders Amit Sibal and Sandeep Sethi, by the respondents did not agree with this sentence and looked for time to present the written presentations. According to Dubey, the court reserved his order in the interim request seeking relief by asking both parties to submit their submissions in writing.
The statement had said the comments have caused the most damage to the legal profession in the eyes of the millions of viewers who watch it. He had requested that the part in question be removed. The matter will now be heard on July 7.
