In an exclusive conversation with India Today, hitting legend Sunil Gavaskar shed light on what his daily life has been like during the ongoing blockade across the country due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking to India Today, consulting editor Rajdeep Sardesai, Gavaskar, who sported a white beard attributed the facial hair to ‘sheer laziness’ before revealing that he has been living life ‘on the ultra bristle’ during the shutdown. Most surprising, though, was Gavaskar’s revelation that he has lost a lot of weight right now and now weighs just a few grams more than he used to when he made his Test debut for India in 1971, almost 50 years ago!
“Basically, I’ve been taking it easy, getting up late, catching up on a little calf. Then, at night, I go for a walk on my terrace and I could tell you that you’ll be surprised to know that I have almost reduces the weight of my debut series: only 0.03 kg more than my weight was when I debuted. Also, the fact that due to restrictions, their diets are also restricted. Also, watch some TV series or something like that on the evening. Overall I’m happy to be home, “Gavaskar said.
Gavaskar also regretted the fact that his entire family was not able to be with him right now, but video calling features on smartphones and other similar devices have helped him stay connected with his entire family.
“In the ultra slow lane (living life in). I would be very happy if my whole family were here with me, but that’s not the case. But luckily with all these new gadgets, they can see and talk to each other. So it’s also a great advantage, “said Gavaskar.
Gavaskar also said that his donation of Rs. 59 lakh towards fighting coronavirus is “nothing” compared to what some others are doing. It also offered more help to the government in the ongoing fight to contain the pandemic.
“Yes, I got 35 hundreds for India in Testing and ODI, so I gave that (35 lakhs) to the PM-CARES fund and I got 24 for Mumbai, so I gave the same amount to the Maharashtra CM-Relief fund. But that’s nothing. and people are doing much more and if the government wants me to do something else, I would be very happy to do that. I am what I am only for India, “said Gavaskar.
