The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Monday banned Umar Akmal from all crickets for three years for failing to report an offer of redress before the start of the fifth edition of the Pakistan Super League, an offense under the anti-corruption code of the meeting.
According to a board tweet, the decision was made by the chairman of the Justice (r) Fazal-i-Miran Chauhan disciplinary panel.
On February 20, PCB had suspended Akmal with immediate effect.
Akmal had not requested a hearing before the Anti-Corruption Court after he was charged with two violations of Article 2.4.4 of the PCB Anti-Corruption Code in two unrelated incidents.
He was also barred from PSL immediately by banning him from playing for Quetta Gladiators.
Article 2.4.4 of the code says: “Do not disclose to the PCB security and surveillance department (without unnecessary delay) full details of any approach or invitation received by the participant to engage in corrupt conduct under this Anti-Corruption Code.”
In 2018 Akmal had told him Samaa TV that bookmakers approached him during the 2015 World Cup to drop two balls for $ 200,000.
That offer, he said, was just one of many that had come up to him over the years.
“I received an offer during the World Cup to leave two balls alone and they were willing to pay me $ 200,000 for that,” Akmal had said.
“It was our first match against India at the 2015 World Cup […] In fact, every game I play against India, they offer me money to give me an excuse and choose to quit the game. But I told those people that I am very sincere about playing for Pakistan and that they don’t talk to me about it anymore, “he said.
