Within three days of signing a trade pact with WhatsApp owned by Facebook, Reliance Retail, owned by Mukesh Ambani, launched on WhatsApp in the Navi Mumbai, Thane and Kalyan areas in Mumbai, Livemint.
By launching on WhatsApp, Reliance Retail’s e-commerce company JioMart has gained direct access and reach to the messaging app’s user base of more than 400 million.
Users in these service areas can add the JioMart number (8850008000) on their phones, where they receive a link in the chat window that remains in service for 30 minutes. Using the link, users can place an order from the product catalog by completing their address and phone number.
JioMart shares the order details with the local Kirana store via WhatsApp, while the user receives the details of the respective store and is notified once the store invoices the order. The customer must pick up the order in the store.
The company aims to establish an O2O (online to offline market) model, a model that has been pioneered by Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba group holdings Ltd. In the O2O channel, a customer searches for the product or services. online but you buy it through an offline channel.
