You can buy the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro in a couple of days. To make sure that day it does nothing more than impress new phone owners, OnePlus is driving another round of updates that address the issues we noticed during our reviews.
OnePlus 8 Pro update to 10.5.5
The biggest update I could argue for is for the OnePlus 8 Pro, which is the upper end of the two phones. It’s a 157MB update that addresses system, camera, battery, and network issues.
The biggest change (at least for me) comes in the display department, where OnePlus says they have “optimized touch sensitivity at the edges of the screen.” As you can call from our OnePlus 8 Pro review, the unwanted palm touches were basically my biggest complaint. I can’t wait to get this update on my phone and run some tests to see if OnePlus was delivered here.
The new update also addresses issues with motion smoothing and display effects, improves focus on the dark environment and the accuracy of white balance in the camera, and “improves the stability of WiFi and mobile data transmission.” Hopefully, that last part fixes the WiFi dips that I also noticed.
OnePlus 8 update to 10.5.4
The regular OnePlus 8 is seeing a very similar update in both size (158 MB) and fixes. There are issues addressed on the system, camera, and network, just like the 8 Pro.
For the system, OnePlus “optimized display effects,” improved white balance accuracy and focus in dark environments, and addressed similar WiFi and data transmission errors. Look, it’s a very similar update.
Update available now
If you already have a OnePlus 8 or 8 Pro, the update is out now, at least in the US. USA Our review units 8 and 8 Pro picked up the update this morning. To verify, head to Settings> System> System Updates.
