The Ministry of Human Resources has asked universities to study how India handled the Spanish flu pandemic in 1918 and what steps were taken to boost the economy.

The ministry has also advised universities to set up research teams and study COVID-19 awareness levels in villages near their campuses.

“The minister of human resources has wanted universities to study how India handled the 1918 pandemic (H1N1 virus) and what measures were taken to boost the economy after the pandemic,” a senior ministry official said in a communication to the universities. .

“It has also been desired that Indian universities and institutions study 5 to 6 adjoining or adopted villages for the best work done in response to COVID-19. The study may focus on what are the levels of consciousness in the people and how they resisted various challenges posed by COVID-19, “added the official.

The Ministry of Human Resources has been encouraging academic institutions to make research contributions to help in the fight against the deadly coronavirus.

According to the Union Ministry of Health, the number of deaths from COVID-19 increased to 779 in the country on Saturday and the number of cases was 24,942, registering an increase of 56 deaths and 1,490 cases since Friday night.

The 56 deaths were the highest reported in the country in a 24-hour span, the ministry said.

The number of active cases of COVID-19 was 18,953, while 5,209 people were cured and discharged, and one patient has migrated, he added.
