NEW DELHI: While people remain indoors due to restrictions imposed by the Center and state governments to contain the spread of COVID-19 coronavirus infections, the situation has also led to fear of a possible explosion in the country during this period.

This has prompted the population control department to start delivering condoms at home and other family planning kits in all villages in the Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh. It has come to light that the district administration in Ballia has instructed health workers to distribute condoms, contraceptives, and other popular family planning kits to avoid the possible population explosion here.

District officials are concerned that closure restrictions and a lack of recreational activities could lead to a possible increase in the birth rate in the district and elsewhere during this period.

Because of this, NGO members like Asha, along with health workers and the Nurse Midwife (ANM) have been instructed to distribute condom packs and other contraceptives to each household here. They have also been asked to inform people about the benefits of family planning and the various population control measures available to them.

In sharing more details, Ballia’s assistant CMO Dr. Ballinder Prasad said the government is also concerned that family planning does not become an entertainment tool for husband and wife imprisoned at home due to the pandemic. of coronavirus. About 30,000 condoms have been distributed so far during the shutdown, he said.

ACMO, however, said this campaign to distribute the family planning kit is not new and has already been running for a long time as part of the government’s population control program.

Dr. Prasad said that confinement in rural areas means less entertainment, so the campaign to distribute condoms continues here considering that the population is not increasing. He also reported that health workers here are also fully addressing social distancing measures every time they come to any village. They move between people.

ASHA and ANM workers go door to door informing people about the benefits of family planning along with fighting the coronavirus. The NGO Asha is providing contraceptive pills to women to prevent unwanted pregnancy, while condoms are distributed to men.

One health worker said that due to the lockdown, workers working in other states have returned home. This time it is very important to family planning and that is why health workers are telling you about the benefits of family planning.
