New Delhi:

Almost half of the total deaths from COVID-19 in India are concentrated in 25 districts of eight states, the government said today. 15 of these districts are in Maharashtra alone.

“Of these 25 districts, 15 districts are in a single state which is Maharashtra. Two districts are in Karnataka, West Bengal and Gujarat and one in Tamil Nadu, Punjab, UP and Andhra Pradesh. The Union government is focusing on these districts and has been in contact with district officials so that the situation can be controlled, ”said Health Secretary Rajiv Bhushan.

In Maharashtra, the districts with the most deaths are Mumbai-7,694, Pune-7,094 and Thane-4,486.

Two districts of Karnataka, urban Bengaluru (3,069) and Mysuru (810), also feature on the list.

Gujarat’s Ahmedabad with 1,830 deaths and Surat with 772 also made the list.

When the Secretary was asked if the deaths were high due to the poor organization of the hospital, he said: “The type of hospital arrangements that France and Italy had were much older than us, but they failed. The question is not the configuration of the hospital, but whether the Covid patient arrived at the hospital at the right time or not. If they arrive too late, the risk of mortality is high. That is why higher tests are needed. Faster tests lead to faster isolation and treatment. “

The Ministry of Health also spoke about Indian vaccine preparations.

“The National Group of Vaccine Experts is looking at all aspects. As the Minister of Health said on Sunday, we expect to have vaccine supplies by the first quarter of 2021. We are also studying the preparation of online modules for vaccine administrators. so they can be aware of the process and know how to handle any adverse events, “said Mr. Bhushan.

On the Russian Sputnik-V vaccine, the ministry said the Russians have partnered with a commercial entity in India that has requested tests from the Indian regulator. The Indian regulator has made some suggestions. Once the business entity responds and works on that, things will continue, he said.

When asked whether or not the COVID-19 peak was crossed, the Health Secretary said: “The Health Ministry has repeatedly said that the peaks are mathematically evaluated. But, give a confident statement that at this time it is not in public health welfare. We need to continue with all precautions. Several nations suffered because they became lenient after saying they passed the top. With the winter months and festivities approaching, we must be more cautious. “
