NEW DELHI: a total of 7,740 dedicated COVID-19 facilities have been identified in 483 districts, the Union Ministry of Health he said Sunday, claiming that there is adequate health infrastructure to combat the pandemic.
Public health facilities dedicated to the management of Covid-19 are classified into three categories: dedicated COVID-19 Hospital (DCH), Covid Dedicated Health Center (DCHC) and Covid Dedicated Care Center (DCCC).
As of Sunday, 7,740 facilities have been identified in 483 districts across all Union states / territories that include hospitals and facilities from state / UT governments as well as the central government, according to a health ministry statement.
There are 6,56,769 isolation beds, 3,05,567 beds for confirmed cases, 3.51,204 for suspected cases, 99,492 beds with oxygen support, 1,696 oxygen collector facilities and 34,076 beds in the ICU, he said.
The central government has asked all states / UTs to report and upload the three assigned types of dedicated Covid facilities on their websites for public information and 32 states / UTs have already uploaded the information while the rest are in the process of doing so.
In view of the need to further increase the testing capacity for Covid-19 at the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC), the acquisition of a high-performance machine was approved based on the recommendations of an Empowered Group.
The Cobas 6800 test machine has been successfully installed at NCDC here, according to the statement.
NCDC is providing assistance in analyzing samples from Delhi, NCR, Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir and various other states as needed.
Currently, the test capacity in NCDC is approximately 300-350 tests per day and with Cobas 6800, which has a capacity to analyze around 1,200 samples in 24 hours, the capacity in NCDC will improve significantly.
So far, a total of 19,357 people have been cured, including 1,511 patients who recovered in the past 24 hours, the health ministry said. This brings the total recovery rate to 30.76 percent.
The death toll from Covid-19 rose to 2,109 and the number of cases rose to 62,939 in the country on Sunday, registering an increase of 128 deaths and 3,277 cases in the last 24 hours, according to the ministry.
The ministry of health has also explained the basis of classification of Covid-19 dedicated facilities in the three categories.
Covid’s dedicated hospitals are hospitals that offer comprehensive care primarily for those who have been clinically assigned as severe. These hospitals should have intensive care units, ventilators and beds fully equipped with assured oxygen.
These hospitals will have separate areas for suspected and confirmed cases.
Covid Dedicated Hospitals will serve as referral centers for Covid Dedicated Health Centers and Covid Care Centers.
Covid Dedicated Health Centers are hospitals that provide care for all cases that have been clinically assigned as moderate.
DCHCs will have separate areas for suspected and confirmed cases.
These hospitals will have beds with assured oxygen support and each DCHC is assigned to one or more dedicated Covid hospitals.
Covid Care Centers will provide care only for cases that have been clinically assigned as mild or very mild cases or suspected Covid cases.
These are makeshift facilities that can be established by States / UTs in hostels, hotels, schools, stadiums, hostels, etc., both public and private.
These facilities should have separate areas for suspected and confirmed cases.
Each DCCC is assigned to one or more DCHCs and at least one DCH for reference purposes, the ministry said.
