Seven people who returned to Hyderabad in the last two weeks from the UK tested positive for coronavirus and their swab samples were sent for testing to determine if they had been infected with the new variant of coronavirus detected there, said a senior official at Telangana Health on Thursday.
All seven have been admitted to hospitals and are being continuously monitored, said Public Health Director G Srinivas Rao.
“We have found that seven people who returned from the UK in the last two weeks have tested positive for coronavirus. Their samples have been sent to the CSIR-Center for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) for further testing to see if they have the new strain of it. virus, “Rao told the PTI news agency.
Meanwhile, an official statement from Health Minister E Rajender said that 1,200 people have so far arrived in Telangana from or through the UK since 12 December.
Seven of 846 tested positive, he said, adding that efforts are underway to trace the people who came into contact with them.
Amid the expected approval for a COVID-19 vaccine soon, he also said that arrangements were being made to vaccinate (two doses) 70 to 80 lakhs of people in the first phase.
