India now has more than 36.91 lakh of coronavirus cases, after 69,921 infections were reported in the past 24 hours. 28,39,882 patients have recovered from the infection in the country, bringing the recovery rate to 76.93 percent. In the past 24 hours, 819 Covid-related deaths were reported, bringing the total death count to 65,288. Maharashtra remains the state hardest hit by the pandemic, with 7,92,541 COVID -19 cases, including 24,583 deaths. Maharashttra is followed by three southern states: Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. India is the country with the third highest number of coronavirus cases in the world after the United States and Brazil.

Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh are the five states that reported the highest number of cases in the last 24 hours. The number of COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra increased by 11,852 new cases on Monday. 184 deaths were also reported Monday. The state has reported 7,92,541 cases so far.

Andhra Pradesh, which has crossed Tamil Nadu on its Covid case count and now has the second highest number of cases in the country, reported 10,004 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total case count to 4,34,771.

Tamil Nadu reported 5,956 new COVID-19 cases, 6,008 recoveries and 91 deaths in the past 24 hours, bringing the total cases to 4,28,041.

In Karnataka, 6,495 new cases, 7,238 discharged cases and 113 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases to 3,442,423, including 2,49,467 discharges and 5,702 deaths.

The Delhi government decided on Monday to maintain the status quo on prohibited activities until September 2 in the national capital. Although gyms have not been allowed to reopen in the city, weekly markets have been allowed to run on a trial basis until September 6. The total number of coronavirus cases now stands at 1.74,748.
