68-year-old priest arrested for raping a minor in Bangalore

The girl was taken to the local government hospital for a medical examination, where doctors confirmed that she was raped.

A 68-year-old priest was arrested for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl at his daughter’s home, located within a temple premises, Bengaluru police said on Thursday.

According to the police, the accused has been identified as Venkataramanappa, a resident of Chikkaballapura, who was guarding the temple in the absence of his son-in-law.

On Tuesday night, Venkataramanappa saw the girl playing outside the temple and allegedly lured her by promising to give her candy. He took her to his daughter’s home, which is adjacent to the temple, and raped her, said CK Baba, deputy police commissioner (northeast).

After he did not return home until the evening, the girl’s mother began making inquiries in the neighborhood. “After asking about his daughter in the temple, a vendor selling flowers in front of the temple told the mother that he saw the girl go to the priest’s house,” added CK Baba.

The mother along with the neighbors went to the priest’s house and found the girl crying outside. They immediately informed the police after she recounted the incident to her mother.

“According to the CCTV camera footage at the temple premises, the medical report and the flower seller’s statement, Venkataramanappa was arrested on Wednesday and registered under various sections of the Child Protection Against Sexual Offenses Act. , and also under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code “. CK Baba said.
