India’s coronavirus count has risen to 72.39 lakhs of cases after a new peak of 63,509 infections in the past 24 hours, government data showed this morning. The death toll stood at 1.10.586 after 730 deaths were recorded in one day. Around 63 lakh of patients in the country have recovered so far; 74,632 patients have recovered since yesterday. On Tuesday, the country, the second worst hit by the pandemic, saw an increase of 55,342 infections, the lowest one-day increase in nearly two months.
Here are the updates on coronavirus (COVID-19) cases:
Telangana recorded 1,446 new coronavirus cases and eight related deaths, bringing the infection count in the state to 2.16 lakh. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) accounted for 252 of the new cases, followed by Rangareddy 135, Medchal Malkajgiri 131 and other districts, a state government bulletin said Wednesday, providing data at 8 p.m. on Oct. 13.
Up to 10 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in the last 24 hours from Mizoram, the State Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) reported on Wednesday. Currently, there are 119 active cases of COVID-19 in the state.
The COVID-19 count in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands rose to 4,036 as 13 more people tested positive for the infection in the Union Territory, a health department official said Wednesday.

About 47 percent of COVID-19 deaths in the country have been among people under the age of 60, the Center said Tuesday, warning against any laxity in taking precautions, stating that respiratory illnesses increase in winter.
The coronavirus curve in Assam has started to flatten, the state government said on Tuesday, pointing to a sharp drop in the positivity rate, from more than 8 percent in mid-September to 1.41 percent yesterday. US pharmaceutical firm Eli Lilly on Tuesday paused a late-stage trial of its treatment of experimental laboratory-produced antibodies against Covid-19 due to an unspecified safety issue, the company said. “Lilly supports the decision of the independent DSMB (data safety monitoring board) to cautiously ensure the safety of the patients participating in this study,” a spokesperson told AFP in a statement.

Coronavirus news: Meghalaya reported 67 new COVID-19 cases, 4 deaths on Tuesday
At least 67 more people tested positive for coronavirus in Meghalaya on Tuesday, bringing the state’s tally to 7,841, an official said, the PTI news agency reported. Four more people died from COVID-19 on Tuesday, bringing the death toll to 68, said Director of Health Services Aman War. New COVID-19 cases were reported in East Khasi Hills District (45), West Garo Hills (10), Ri Bhoi District (5), two cases from North Garo Hills and South Garo Hills District, and a case of East Jaintia Hills, South West Garo Hills and the West Jaintia Hills district respectively.
