MUMBAI: during a suspended API search Sachin wazeAt his home, 62 missing bullets were found, the National Investigative Agency told the special court on Thursday. In addition, of the official ammunition assigned to him, only five of the 30 bullets were recovered from his residence; the rest were missing, said Assistant Attorney General Anil Singh, as he sought an extension of their custody.
Waze, in his defense, said he had nothing to do with the crime and that he had become a scapegoat. Special Judge Prashant R Sitre sent Waze into NIA custody until April 3.
Singh argued that since a police officer has to account for each and every bullet assigned to him, the NIA wanted to determine for what purpose the remaining 25 bullets were used and what sponsorship he had that allowed them not to keep a record. .
“Why did you keep a lot of bullets in your house? Is this a deep-rooted conspiracy? Singh asked.
The NIA also claimed that during the investigation, it found that Waze had paid Rs 12 lakh for 100 days for a suite at the Oberoi hotel. Assistant Attorney General Anil Singh said Waze had used a fake Aadhaar card bearing his photo and pseudonym to reserve a suite at the Oberoi Hotel.
Waze was arrested on March 13 in connection with the investigation into the recovery of explosives from a van that was found parked near the residence of businessman Mukesh Ambani in South Mumbai on February 25. On March 14, he was taken into NIA custody for 12 days.
“We are concerned about the safety of the people,” Singh said. He added that the NIA wanted to investigate the purpose of the act and whether it was done to disrupt the country’s economy for the purpose of a businessman or for the purpose of creating terror in society. Singh said the investigations are at a crucial stage.
“This is one of the most egregious and shocking cases not only in our city or state, but in the entire country. Everyone is surprised to discover that a police officer is involved in placing explosives in a particular place in a case of which he himself was the investigating officer, ”he said.
Waze was presented for his pretrial detention hearing before the NIA special court at 2:45 p.m. Previously, the NIA had added sections under the strict Unlawful Activity (Prevention) Act (UAPA) against Waze and also took over the investigation in the Mansukh Hiran murder case. The NIA said that since the UAPA provisions are drawn in, a full 30-day custody could be sought.
Referring to the murder, Singh said: “The murder is related to this crime and must be investigated. The explosives-laden vehicle was in his name. Two people have been detained by the ATS. ”He said additional custody from Waze was also required to confront him with the defendants.
