The six-year-old granddaughter of BJP deputy Rita Bahuguna Joshi died this morning of burns in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. The boy reportedly suffered burns from crackers on Monday.
She had more than 60% burns and was admitted to a hospital in Prayagraj.
Doctors and family members have refused to share more information and the family has requested privacy.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Deputy Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya said there was a plan today to airlift the boy to Delhi. Condoning her death, Maurya told reporters: “The girl must have been playing and I have been told that she was burned because of that. We had arranged for her transfer to Delhi, but we were not expecting that news. I am shocked and hurt by the loss. Yes people are careful, things will not come to this, “he told reporters. “But my condolences to the family and one pray for the deceased soul,” he said.
Joshi, 71, had joined the BJP in 2016 after resigning from Congress, his party for 24 years. She had served as head of the UP of Congress for five years, from 2007 to 2012.
Ms. Joshi won Prayagraj’s 2019 Lok Sabha election as a BJP candidate.
His father is the former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna.
