6 Bihar migrant workers hit by bus in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh | India News

In a tragic incident, six migrant workers were killed near Muzaffarnagar after being run over by a Uttar Pradesh state bus on Wednesday (May 13) at night.

The accident is known to have taken place on the Muzaffarnagar-Saharanpur State Highway around 11 PM. The victims were from Gopalganj from Bihar and were walking back to their home state from Punjab, where they used to work as day laborers.

At least three other people were injured in the accident and were admitted to a hospital. Police registered a case against the driver and launched an investigation into the accident.

Former Uttar Pradesh Prime Minister Akhilesh Yadav expressed his deep regret over the incident and criticized the Center for taking sufficient measures to assist migrant workers.

On May 8, 16 migrant workers were killed after being crushed by a freight train in the Karmad of Aurangabad in Maharashtra. Some others were seriously injured and two escaped unharmed, all the workers are from Madhya Pradesh.

The accident took place near the Karmad railway station between Jalna and Aurangabad of the Nanded Division of South Central Railways. They were sleeping on the train track when the tragedy occurred.

Later, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) had issued a notice to the Maharashtra state government about the incident. Taking into account suo motu the media reports, the Commission has ordered the Chief Secretary of State and the District Magistrate of Aurangabad to submit a detailed report within four weeks.
