India’s coronavirus count has touched 77.06 with a jump of 55,839 cases in the past 24 hours, government data shows. 702 deaths in the past 24 hours have brought the total death count to 1,16,616. 68,74,518 people in the country have recovered since the start of the pandemic. The country has been reporting a steady decline in its daily coronavirus infections after reaching a peak of about 90,000 cases per day in September. India, which reported its first case on January 30, is the second most affected country in the world by the pandemic after the United States.

  1. The number of active cases stands at 7.15.812, according to data from the Union Ministry of Health. Kerala, Maharashtra, Karnataka, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh are the five states that reported the highest number of cases in the last 24 hours.

  2. Maharashtra, the worst state in India affected by COVID-19, added 8,142 new cases, and the total number of infected people reached 16.17,658. The state also reported 180 deaths, bringing the death count to 42,633.

  3. In Andhra Pradesh, which has the highest number of coronavirus cases after Maharashtra, the total cases rose to 7,93,299 and 3,746 cases were added on Wednesday.

  4. Karnataka reported 5,872 new infections and 88 deaths in the last 24 hours. The state’s COVID-19 count is now 7,82,773 lakh.

The Health Ministry in a tweet on Wednesday said that COVID-19 cases on oxygen support (in ICU, via ventilators and oxygen-supported beds) have shown a significant decrease since the last week of September. “This aligns with the national decrease in active cases to less than 10 percent of total cases,” he said.
