PANAJI: More than 50 percent of people booked on special trains to Goa are not local residents and the increase in visitors is cause for concern, Prime Minister Pramod Sawant he said Thursday.
“More than 50 percent of people who come to Goa on trains are strangers. It is a concern,” said Sawant.

He also said that he had spoken to Union Minister of the Interior Amit Shah and the Minister of Railways on the wave of “strangers” traveling to Goa in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“It is a concern that we have expressed to the Minister of the Interior of the Union and Union Railways Minister. They have said that our concern will be studied and that a decision will be made, “Sawant said.
On Wednesday, Sawant had issued a strong warning to people using the special train service, to transport stranded people, initiated by the indian railways, to visit Goa on vacation, saying that the coastal state was not yet open to tourism.
