On the “momentous” occasion of the five-year One Rank One Pension (OROP), Prime Minister Narendra Modi saluted soldiers on Saturday for bravely protecting the nation.

“Today, five years ago, India took a historic step to ensure the well-being of our great soldiers, who bravely protect our nation. # 5YearsOfOROP is a momentous occasion. India waited for RFMOs for decades, ”Prime Minister Modi tweeted.

“I salute our veterans for their extraordinary service!” added.

The Center has disbursed more than Rs 42,700 crore to 20.6 lakh of retired defense personnel under the OROP scheme since its inception, the Defense Ministry said on Friday. “Annual recurring expense on account of OROP is approximately Rs 7,123 crore and for approximately six years, as of July 1, 2014, total recurring expense is estimated at approximately Rs 42,740 crore,” the Ministry said.

The OROP plan has been in effect as of July 1, 2014. Under the plan, military personnel who retire in the same rank with the same length of service receive the uniform pension regardless of their retirement date.
