5 states account for almost 50% of new Covid-19 cases | India News

NEW DELHI: The Center raised concerns about five states, Kerala, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Delhi, which account for nearly 50% of new Covid cases detected on Monday, even as active cases now stand at 6.25 lakh. Of this, 35% are from just 18 districts.
The Center said it is focusing on states where cases are growing, while the daily average of new Covid-19 cases fell from 83,232 during September 23-29 to 49,909 in the week of October 21-27, showed data from the Ministry of Health. The decline in cases was seen even when the average daily tests stood at around 11 lakh of samples, authorities said.
On Monday, 36,470 new infections were detected, the lowest number of new daily cases in three months since July 17. Testing increased slightly Monday to 9.58 lakh of samples, compared with 9.39 lakh a day ago. However, it remained below the 10 lakh that officials attributed to Dusshera celebrations.
In addition to Kerala and Maharashtra, officials are also concerned about Delhi, which is registering a high rate of positivity, even as new cases witnessed a decline on Monday compared to the previous three days.
While the cumulative positivity rate in Delhi was 8.06%, the weekly positivity rate was 7%. The government warned against letting the guard down citing a second peak in many countries in Europe and the US witnessing even a third peak. “In many countries the cases are increasing. This peak is higher than the original. This should be a lesson for all of us, ”said Dr. VK Paul, member of Niti Aayog (health).
“We are very fortunate that our trend is going in the opposite direction. We are fortunate that today we are showing a decrease in the pandemic, except in two or three states. This decrease is particularly notable because in other countries of the northern hemisphere there is a sharp increase in the intensity of the pandemic, “he added.
