Raipur:
Five members of the security personnel were killed and some injured in the line of duty in an encounter with Maoists in the Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh. “Five members of the security personnel died in the line of duty. The Maoists have also died; they have suffered substantial losses,” said Ashok Juneja, a senior state official.
Security personnel from CRPF’s elite CoBRA (Resolute Action Command Battalion) unit, the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the Special Task Force (STF) were in an anti-Maoist operation when the encounter broke out.
“The encounter broke out in the Tarrem area (along the Sukma and Bijapur border) when a joint team of security forces was in an anti-Naxal (Maoist) operation,” said the Chhattisgarh Police Director General, DM Awasthi.
“According to preliminary information, five Jawans were killed and a few more injured in the shooting,” he added.
The meeting is underway.

This comes days after five police officers were killed and 14 injured after Maoists attacked a bus carrying 27 DRG (District Reserve Guard) personnel in the Naryanpur district of Chhattisgarh.
The bus, which was traveling from Kadenar to Kanhargaon, was hit by an IED (improvised explosive device).
Meanwhile, on Thursday, three Maoists involved in planting explosives against security forces were arrested in the Sukma district of Chhattisgarh.
