SRINAGAR: Four members of the security forces personnel, including an Army officer, and three terrorists were killed during a failed infiltration attempt by the ultras along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Machil sector of Jammu and Kashmir. on Sunday, authorities said.
Terrorists made a failed attempt overnight to infiltrate the Indian side of the LoC in the Machil sector in northern Kashmir. Kupwara district, they added.
The infiltrators were challenged and three of them died, officials said.
However, three Army soldiers, including an officer and a Border security force (BSF) jawan also died during the operation, they added.
Meanwhile, based in Srinagar defense spokesperson Colonel Rajesh Kalia said that around 1 am, a BSF patrol noticed a suspicious movement near the Anti-Infiltration Obstacle System (LoC fence), about 3.5 km from the LoC.
BSF staff challenged the infiltrators and a shooting ensued, in which a militant was killed, he said.
“A BSF soldier was killed in action (KIA) and the shooting stopped at 04:00 hours,” Colonel Kalia said in a statement.
He said more troops were brought into the area and the movement of terrorists was tracked with the help of surveillance devices.
“Contact was reestablished at 10.20 am when the search parties themselves fired hard at approximately 1.5 km from the LoC. In the ensuing shooting, two more terrorists were killed. The troops themselves suffered three KIAs and two wounded,” Colonel Kalia said.
He added that the wounded soldiers have been evacuated.
The operation is ongoing and further details are expected, the spokesperson said.
