In a shocking incident, 35-year-old Agra Police Deputy Inspector Prashant Kumar Yadav was shot and killed on Wednesday night as he was on his way to resolve a dispute between two brothers over the harvest in Naharra village in Naharra district. “The deputy inspector came to resolve the dispute between two brothers over the potato harvest. The accused brother runs away after the incident, ”said Krishna.
Two brothers, Shivnath and Vishwanath, were fighting over the potato crops since the morning. The field belonged to his father Vijay Singh Pehalwan. While the older brother, Shivnath, had planted potatoes in the field, the younger brother, Vishwanath, came and claimed half the harvest. When the police were informed of the ongoing dispute, Deputy Inspector Prashant Yadav and Officer Chandrasen arrived at the scene and discovered that Vishwanath was threatening workers who were digging potatoes.
While Yadav was chasing Vishwanath, he shot him and after Yadav fell to the ground, Vishwanath pushed Chandrasen and fled the scene. Yadav was immediately taken to CHC in Khadoli, where he was pronounced dead.
“It was a dispute over the potato harvest between brothers Shivnath and Vishwanath and Deputy Inspector Prashant Kumar Yadav came to the field together with Sheriff Chandrasen to resolve the dispute. The SI persecuted the defendant Vishwanath, who shot him, which was fatal, ”said Rajeev Krishna.
Yadav had joined the police force in 2015.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences on Yadav’s passing and announced compensation of ₹50 lakh for the family and a government job for a clerk and a road named after him.
