Indore:
A jewelry store in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore, one of the districts worst affected in the state by the novel coronavirus outbreak, was temporarily closed for cleaning and disinfection after 31 employees tested positive for the highly infectious Covid-19. Health officials have started tracking customers who visited the store in the past week.
“We have started tracking infected staff and customers, who would have contacted them in the past week. We want to check if any of them have a cough, cold or other Covid symptoms so we can test them.” The medical director, Dr. Pravin Jadia, told reporters. The jewelry showroom, Anand Jewels, is being disinfected and will reopen only after the fumigation is complete, authorities said.
Millions across the country celebrated Diwali and Dhanteras last week and the number of people visiting the markets increased significantly amid the holiday, compared to recent months. Footage from Delhi and Mumbai showed people wandering the streets without masks and violating government-imposed social distancing rules.
In Madhya Pradesh, more than 1.86 lakh people have tested positive for coronavirus so far; more than 1,200 deaths have been reported. Indore, which reported 194 new infections yesterday, is one of the worst affected districts.
