3-year-old girl raped, killed in UP, third incident in the district in 20 days

The boy’s father had charged another villager in the rape and murder case.

Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh:

A three-year-old girl found dead in a field in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri on Thursday morning was raped and strangled, police said today. This is the third murder-rape in the district in 20 days.

The girl had been missing since Wednesday. Her body was found about half a kilometer from her home with signs of a head injury.

Yesterday, the police had called it murder. The sexual assault was confirmed by autopsy, police said.

The boy’s father had accused another villager, Lekhram, in his complaint to the police. He had alleged that his daughter was kidnapped and killed in an old rivalry.

The police have formed four teams to search for the accused.

Lakhimpur Kheri district has been in the news after a 17-year-old girl, who had left her home to fill out a scholarship application, was found dead outside her village. Apparently, she was raped and murdered.

His mutilated body was found near a dry pond about 200 meters from his village.

Before this, a 13-year-old girl was raped and strangled in the same district.

Police said the girl had left for her fields in the afternoon and when she did not return home, her family began looking for her. They found her dead in a sugar cane field.

The incidents have sparked public outrage with Congress and the Samajwadi Party attacking the BJP government of Yogi Adityanath for what they call a worsening of the law and order situation.

Facing an increase in crimes against women, especially minors, the state government recently established a Women and Children Safety Organization headed by a high ranking police officer to handle these cases and ensure the safety of women and children.
