A three-year-old girl found dead in a sugarcane field in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri on Thursday was raped and strangled to death, police said Friday. The girl was missing on Wednesday and her body was found with wound marks on Thursday.

This is the third rape and murder incident in Lakhimpur Kheri district in the past 20 days.


The family has alleged that their daughter was kidnapped and killed due to an old feud. The girl’s father, in her complaint, named a Lekharam, from the same village, police said.

Initially, the police suspected that it was a murder. However, a panel of three doctors performed an autopsy Thursday and confirmed strangulation and rape.

“The post-mortem report has confirmed rape. I am with relatives at the moment. Seven of our teams are working on the case. I myself am going to comb the sugarcane fields and strict measures will be taken against the accused,” said the Superintendent of cop. Satyendra Kumar Singh said.

At the beginning of August 14, a 13-year-old girl was raped and killed in the area of ​​the Isanagar police station. Police arrested two men and said strict action will be taken against the defendants under the National Security Act (NSA).

It was followed by a similar rape incident on August 24 in the Neemgaon area, where a 17-year-old Dalit girl was found dead on the outskirts of her village after she had left home to complete a scholarship application, police said. .

The third incident of rape and murder has raised the issue of the worsening situation of law and order in the district under the Yogi Adityanath government. Opposition parties have also expressed their anguish against the government over the issue of law and security.

“Even after so many incidents, our ‘tough’ Chief Minister has not set responsibilities. A dying system and a defenseless Chief Minister,” tweeted head of state Congress Ajay Kumar Lalu.
