Bangalore: Karnataka has announced a three-week mid-term holiday for all kinds of school activities from October 12-30 due to reports of an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases among teachers. The order was issued by Karnataka’s Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Sunday (October 11, 2020).
“I have come to know through the media that many teachers contract the COVID-19 infection, so, taking into account the health of teachers and students, I have directed senior officials to issue an order declaring vacation mid-term for three weeks from October 12, “Yediyurappa said in a statement, PTI reports.
The Chief Minister noted that orders have already been issued not to open schools for the time being.
Following reports that 34 students and some teachers tested positive for COVID-19, the state government decided on Saturday to temporarily halt the Vidyagama program.
The Vidyagama program allowed for the continuous schooling of public school students by visiting teachers. He had previously said that he would continue the Vidyagama program for public school students and online classes in private schools.
The government had earlier this month canceled the mid-term vacation, scheduled for October 3-26.
Meanwhile, JD (S) leader and former chief minister, HD Kumraswamy, in a series of tweets criticized the state government’s decision to cancel the mid-term vacation and asked “if the teachers were salaried workers during the dictatorship? ? “
