A month after three leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) resigned citing the “undesirable actions and statements” of Mehbooba Mufti, three more left the party. Daman Bhasin, Fallail Singh and Pritam Kotwal resigned from the party, which they said has become the “second fiddle” of the National Conference.
Putting our political career on the line, we joined the PDP from day one of its formation with the aim of providing a secular alternative to the corrupt NC and dynasty, as the late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had a vision to thwart the evil designs of the communal and parochial elements, but the party leadership unfortunately abandoned the Mufti Sahib’s agenda to become NC’s B team, ”they said in a letter, which was published by the ANI news agency on Twitter.
“In addition to becoming the North Carolina B-team, the party leadership has recently made very provocative and controversial statements against the party founder’s core principles. Taking into account the prevailing situation, being disciples of the late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, it is difficult for us to work in the party that has become the second fiddle of the NC. We are forced to make this difficult decision with heavy hearts to leave the party that we form as disciples of the late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, ”they added.
In October, TS Bajwa, Ved Mahajan and Hussain A Waffa had resigned from the PPD, saying they “felt quite uncomfortable about some of their undesirable actions and statements, especially those that hurt patriotic sentiments,” referring to party chief Mehbooba Mufti. “Instead of overcoming challenges from within and without through a process of broader consultation and trust, some elements within the party push the party and the leadership in a particular direction, thus deviating from the basic principles, agenda and philosophy. , which makes it difficult for the sanest voices in society to confront each other ”, they had said.
The resignations of Bajwa, Mahajan and Waffa came after Mufti said that members of his party would not raise the tricolor unless they were allowed to raise the Jammu and Kashmir flag, whose right had been conferred on the former state by the now. -Article 370 of the Constitution has been deactivated.
They also came after Mehbooba Mufti joined the People’s Alliance for the Gupkar Declaration, a grouping of seven political parties in Jammu and Kashmir. The president of the National Conference (NC), Farooq Abdullah, has been chosen as its president and Mufti as his deputy, shaping an alliance they have formed to demand the restoration of the special status of the old state. The Center had revoked the old state’s special status last year in August and forked it into Union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
